MacArthur Barr Middle School News & Announcements Incoming Grade 5 Parent/Guardian Orientation On May 13th, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM, the parents/guardians of our incoming grade 5 students are invited to join us for a parent/guardian orientation event. During the event, you will have the opportunity to meet our administrators, some of our grade 5 team, our school resource office and one of our psychologists. We will take you through "a day in the life of a Barr 5th grader", provide ways to support your child during the transition and answer your questions. Afterwards, we invite you to stay to meet our PTA board at the 7:30 PM PTA meeting. We are always looking to grow our connections between home and school! In the event you are unable to join us for the event, you will find the presentation slides attached. The grade 4 students will have their student orientation and visit to Barr at the end of this week. We are so excited to welcome them to our Barr family! 2024 5th Grade Orientation.pdf A. MacArthur Barr Middle School Grades 5 & 8 NYSED Science Assessments Greetings Barr Families, On Tuesday, May 14th, our grade 8 students will take the NYS Science assessment. On Wednesday, May 15th, our grade 5 students will take the NYS Science assessment. Since these are computer-based assessments (CBT), all students should bring fully charged Chromebooks to school. We anticipate regular instruction resuming by 10:15 AM. Please note that our grade 8 students who are taking Earth Science should report to school at the regular time for Regent’s preparation. MacArthur Barr Middle School NYSED Math Assessment & Important Updates/Reminders Dear Parents/Guardians, This is a busy time of year so I wanted to reach out with some updates and reminders. UPDATES Below is some information regarding administration of the Spring 2024 NYSED Math Assessments at A. MacArthur Barr Middle School. Grades 5 and 8 will be taking a computer-based assessment, so it is imperative they bring fully charged Chromebooks to school. Grades 6 and 7 will be taking a paper-based assessment. Grade 5: Monday, May 6 th and Tuesday, May 7 th (Computer-based testing) All 5 th grade students must bring a fully charged Chromebook to school. Grade 6: Wednesday, May 8 th and Thursday, May 9 th (Paper-based testing) 6 th grade students will need to bring at least two (#2) sharpened pencils. In addition, students will use a standard four function calculator for Day 2 of the assessment. Grade 7: Wednesday, May 8 th and Thursday, May 9 th (Paper-based testing) 7 th grade students will need to bring at least two (#2) sharpened pencils. In addition, students will use a scientific calculator for Day 1 and Day 2 of the assessment. Grade 8: Wednesday, May 8 th and Thursday, May 9 th (Computer-based testing) All 8 th grade students must bring a fully charged Chromebook to school. We anticipate resuming our regular instruction schedule by approximately 9:45 AM. Note: Grade 8 students enrolled in Algebra should come to school at their regular time (7:37 am) for Regents preparation and instruction. As a reminder, no electronic devices, including cell phones and smart watches, are permitted in testing locations. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions about the upcoming NYSED assessments. REMINDERS As the weather gets warmer, it is a good time for students, and their parents/guardians, to revisit the Dress Code, which can be found on pages 8 and 9 in the Academic Planner which was provided to each student in September. Student athletes are expected to bring their equipment to school each morning, where it should be placed it in the locker room, before heading upstairs for homeroom. Parents who are dropping off equipment should do that after school , after 2:45, which is when our buses have safely left the bus loading area. Due to space and safety reasons, we cannot use the security vestibule to store athletic equipment dropped off during the day.
